Adventure Rox Day Camp Programs
Adventure Rox Day Camps have been providing children & youth with top-notch instruction in adventure based programs since 2004. Our goal is to expose campers to a variety
of activities in a safe and structured environment and to encourage them to try new things and expand their skill base. Campers receive instruction in various activities
which are designed to allow individuals to learn at their own rate while being part of a team environment.
Activities Include:
Rock Climbing Lessons: Campers begin the week on our 30’ rock climbing wall learning basic climbing techniques, proper equipment use, knot tying, and belay skills. Two additional lessons on the rock climbing wall, will prepare them for Friday, which is spent rock climbing on real rock at a location near Whitehorse.
Zip Line: A big hit at the Equinox Outdoor Climbing Wall is a 1000 foot 'zip line' which takes a rider from a platform at the top of the wall, to a landing area on the other side of the pond. During the rock climbing lessons, campers will set personal goals and may want to challenge themselves further by zooming down the zip line! It's a fun, exhilarating and safe ride that campers won't want to miss.
Canoeing: Campers will learn and improve their tandem flat water paddling skills by playing various canoeing games and activities in the Takhini Hot Springs pond. The following day, the campers will learn moving water techniques and safe boating practices as they build a catamaran style raft and spend the day paddling the Yukon River (see details below).
Yukon River Day Trip: A highlight of the week is when campers build 2-3 catamaran style rafts at Rotary Park, and paddle them to the Takhini River Bridge. Along the way campers will play games, learn about map & compass skills, identify the birds and animals they see, and have a picnic lunch at a campsite along the way.
Campfire Cooking: Campers will spend an afternoon learning how to build a safe cooking fire and then put it to good use by cooking up some delicious treats. Muffins cooked in an orange peel, for example, or ooey gooey banana boats and homemade ice cream. Once everyone is fueled up, they will head into the forest for some hiking, ‘forest games’ and shelter building.
Mountain Biking: After a lesson in the use of GPS technology (electronic navigating tool), campers will take to the trails behind the Takhini Hot Springs for an orienteering style activity. Riding their own bikes (please bring a bike & helmet to camp on Thursdays), campers will search for 10 mystery caches which reveal various rewards and puzzles. A fun twist on both mountain biking and orienteering.
Horseback Riding: During sessions 1 & 7 we will be offering “Climb’n’Ride” Camp. These two weeks will include our regular rock climbing and canoeing lessons, but the
Wednesday and Thursday afternoon programs (Campfire Cooking and Mountain Biking) will be replaced with 3 hour horseback riding lessons. Hart 2 Hart Equine Learning Center
offers campers an introduction to horses. Jackie Dickson one of the instructors, is a Canadian Equestrian Federation Certified Coach and has certification in Equine Studies
from the Saskatchewan Institute of Science and Technology. This program will form the foundation for young riders to explore the world of horses and the partnerships and
bonds formed between horses and humans. The class will include an introduction to horses, grooming, basic riding skills, lounge line work and horse and rider games. The
price for these two weeks is $335.
Other Activities at Camp: Depending on the interests of the campers each week, other activities we offer at Adventure Rox Day Camp include: a guided tour of the
Yukon Wildlife Preserve, arts & craft projects during lunch breaks, swimming in the Takhini Hot Springs, and many fun camp games we play throughout the week.
We make sure that each session is slightly different to ensure variety for campers returning for a second week. We guarantee that every week will be a safe, busy and
a fun filled experience with the opportunity for campers to learn new skills in a variety of outdoor adventure programs.
Though our lunch option is "nut-free," we can not ensure that our lunches are absolutely allergy free. If your child has severe allergies or dietary restrictions, we ask
that their lunch be provided from home.
